Mara Aspinall

Mara is a Partner with Illumina Ventures and Co-Founder of BlueStone Venture Partners.

Biography

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mara was an Advisor to The Rockefeller Foundation, co-authoring The Foundation’s reports on COVID policy. With a passion for education about diagnostics, Mara Co-Founded the Biomedical Diagnostics School at Arizona State University, the first and only program dedicated to diagnostics as an independent discipline. Mara was former President and CEO of Ventana Medical Systems, now Roche Tissue Diagnostics. There, she led over two dozen instrument and assay launches and established Roche’s leadership in companion diagnostics. Prior to that, she served as President of Genzyme Genetics before it was sold to LabCorp and led Genzyme Pharmaceuticals and its transformation to an international leader in specialized pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing. Mara served on the Health and Human Services Secretary’s Advisory Council on Genetics, Health & Society (SACGHS) in both the Bush and Obama administrations.

Mara holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
