Dave, Class of 2002
I graduated from Michigan Tech University with a BS in Math and a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1993. I also received an MS in Mechanics in 1995 from the University of Minnesota.
I worked in product engineering for 5 years at General Motors where I worked on components and vehicles throughout the development cycle, to prototypes to production. Most recently I was responsible for various vibration projects that improved ride quality for all GM light-duty trucks.
Since joining Danaher, I have been working as a Product Line Manager for Kollmorgen's direct drive linear motors in Danaher Motion Control platform, General Purpose Systems division. Since this is a marketing position overseeing the development and growth of this product, I work with all aspects of the company: sales/distribution, engineering, manufacturing, accounting, finance, and various support services. The job has many general management characteristics and has been a great place to start. Right now I am having too much fun to think a lot about future Danaher assignments, but stay tuned! I've been impressed with how people at all levels live the Danaher values and work hard as a team to compete and win in the marketplace. This is a refreshing change compared to most other companies.
As you prepare for graduation, know that there are a lot of job opportunities and a lot of decisions to make. Make sure you take the time to know what you want to focus on, and then go for it!
